Recently, our very own Raul Lopez, executive director for Latinos for Tennessee, traveled to Washington, DC and attended the White House celebration of Cinco de Mayo. Raul joined top White House staffers, including Communications Director Sarah Huckabee Sanders, for the intimate gathering at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.

Raul also connected with Alexander Acosta, the U.S. Secretary of Labor, who has much to celebrate as unemployment continues to remain at historic lows across the board, including for Hispanics! Acosta recently unveiled a plan to address the skills gap by focusing on expanded apprenticeship opportunities across all industries.

Education Policy Summit

Raul also found time in his busy schedule to participate in a policy summit hosted by our partner organization American Federation for Children, where bipartisan support for educational options—including Education Savings Accounts (ESAs)—was being discussed. The good news is that polling shows that a majority of Americans continue to support school choice.

Connecting with Latino Leaders

Raul also met with inspiring Latino leaders doing great work across the nation, including Manuel “Manny” Rosales of The Latino Coalition, which offers resources to strengthen small businesses.

To top off his visit, Raul enjoyed connecting with Allen Gutierrez of the U.S. Small Business Administration. Hear a great interview with Allen here, including tips for entrepreneurs.

We appreciate your support as we continue to discuss the important ideas that make the United States the land of freedom and opportunity, in communities across our state. You can help by making a donation to Latinos for Tennessee today.
