Migrant Crisis Requires Washington Leadership from Both Political Parties

Despite being in the White House for nearly two years, President Biden refuses to go to the U.S. – Mexico border to see for himself the crisis unfolding of a broken immigration system.

Despite overwhelming support from Americans to secure the border, President Biden and Democrats on Capitol Hill refuse to do the right thing, preferring instead to play politics and blame Republicans.

As a result, states are being forced to deal with a mass humanitarian crisis.

Tennessee is no exception.

Just recently, the Biden administration informed Gov. Bill Lee that the federal government intends to ship undocumented immigrants to our state.

President Biden may think that he is doing the right thing, but as Gov. Bill Lee recently said:

It’s not compassionate to perpetuate a problem that leads to more exploitation and trafficking,” Lee’s statement said. “This crisis is too big to ignore, and the only way to stop it is to secure the border. Placing the burden on states is not a solution, and we should not bear the brunt of the federal government’s failures.

Gov. Lee is absolutely correct.

We cannot continue supporting policies that will incentivize illegal immigration.

Instead, we need to dramatically reform our country’s immigration system so that folks can come here the right way. But before we do this, we need to secure our border. We cannot turn a blind eye to a broken immigration system that makes it difficult for us to know who may be coming here to do us harm.

To be clear, most folks seeking to immigrate to this country want to work and contribute positively to our local communities.

But there are others who pose a threat to our country.

This is why we need to secure our border and then fix our immigration system.

President Biden: please fix this mess. Tennesseans should not have to suffer the consequences of your failed policies.
